Summer 2019 photos
What a fantastic summer we have had this year in Cornwall :)
It has been an absolute pleasure to welcome students from so many countries (Spain, Italy, France, Switzerland, Poland, Thailand, Hungary & Germany) to come and learn all about Cornwall while also developing their English language skills.
From the start of our summer programme in mid-June to the last days in August, we have visited some amazing places and made some unforgettable memories.
On our summer programmes, we provide 20 hours of English language classes each week. From Monday to Friday we run a class from 9am - 1pm. We split the mornings into two sections. During the first half of the morning we focus more on language and grammar. Then, in the second half, we move onto topics about the history and culture of Cornwall and the UK. We try to always link these activities to our excursions and activities so the students are prepared for their afternoon activities.
All our tutors are native speakers with at least CELTA level qualifications. We also try to recruit our teachers from the local area so they have that in-depth knowledge about Cornwall to pass on to the students.
As you can hopefully see from the pictures, Cornwall is an amazing and beautiful place. It is situated in the far south-west of the UK and so we are surrounded by the most spectacular coastline. On the northern side, we face the Atlantic Ocean, this side of Cornwall has dramatic cliffs and great waves for surfing. The southern side of the county is far more sheltered with calm seas perfect for paddle boarding and boat trips.
In addition to the coastline, Cornwall has a rich history of mining, pirates and even a prehistoric Celtic past dating back thousands of years. This gives us an amazing range of different places to visit and stories to tell during the time students are here for their courses.
In fact, students often come to Cornwall with some knowledge of its rich history through famous books, films and TV series. If you have ever watched Poldark or read a Rosamunde Pilcher or Daphne du Maurier novel you probably already know a little about the rich history of Cornwall. There is even the ancient Cornish language! (but while you are here we will focus mainly on English :))
Another fantastic part of Cornwall is the food! During our summer programmes we make sure that you taste all the local cuisine which is a little bit different (and tastier) than what people are expecting when they come to the UK. By the end of their stay, students fall in love with Cornish pasties, cream teas and locally caught fish'n'chips!
Last but by no means least, a final key strength of our summer programmes is the accommodation we can offer our students. We offer carefully chosen host families who provide that special extra touch to give students a full immersion experience in a typical English family. Our host families provide full board accommodation with a tasty breakfast each morning, a packed lunch to keep you going through the day and finally a delicious home cooked supper at the end of a busy day. Our host families will also take you to visit some local places nearby as another way to experience some aspects of English/Cornish life.
For larger groups, we also work with a local school who provides us with excellent group accommodation within the school grounds. This is the perfect way for international groups of students to enjoy a summer programme socialising with other students of a similar age throughout their time here in Cornwall.
During the summer, we offer the following types of summer language course:
> Residential summer programme - aimed at groups of students aged 14-17 with group leaders
> Teenage summer homestay programme - aimed at groups and individuals aged 12-17
> Adult summer homestay programme - aimed at groups and individuals aged 18+
> Family homestay programme - for family groups who wish to visit Cornwall together
> Summer Internship programmes - for students aged 18+ who would like to get 4 weeks' work experience in Cornwall.
